Your questions answered: If a cross member is heavily corroded is it a fail?

Q. On a Nissan Primera (and Micra) the engine mounting is attached to a cross member - if this member is heavily corroded does this now fail under section 6.1 as it is now insecure?

A.  Engine mountings are not a prescribed area and excessive corrosion in the vicinity of an engine mounting bracket is not in itself a Reason for Rejection.  Only if the cross member corrosion was so severe that the security of the engine mounting bracket was compromised to the extent that it was likely to become detached should it be rejected.  Likewise, if the cross member itself was so corroded that it was likely to become detached at either end this would also be a Reason for Rejection.
