Trialling headlamp aim

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: News and updates

Headlamp aim continues to lead the failure rate tables and consistently tops the charts in the MOT compliance survey as one of the most likely items to be assessed incorrectly.

Because there is such a variety of lamp types and equipment in use, VOSA is looking at whether this part of the test can be simplified and headlamp aim made easier to assess.

We commissioned a trial using volunteers from the VTS Councils, who completed a number of headlamp aim tests each to three different standards. We would like to say a big thank you to the volunteers for their help.

Initial results are encouraging, but a full analysis of the trial results is awaited. If the outcome is positive, the trial will form the basis of a proposal for change.
