VOSA not soft on recalls

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: News and updates

VOSA’s Vehicle Safety Branch (VSB) celebrates continued success in the world of Automotive Safety Recalls. Last year the response rate for recalls for cars in the UK was 91.0%. This impressive figure compares very favourably with other parts of the world.

In 2012 a total of 225 safety recalls were launched involving over 1.1 million automotive products recalled in the UK.

VOSA works closely with vehicle and component manufacturers on the UK's safety recall scheme. The cooperation of industry has meant that we have not needed to use our powers to force a recall.

We also influenced 24% of UK vehicle safety recalls in 2012, with the help of our online defect reporting service, defect investigation and market surveillance and intelligence.

The VSB has continued to work with used car suppliers and sales outlets to ensure vehicles that are not sold with outstanding safety recalls as this is an offence under consumer protection legislation.

Guides to Defects and Recalls for consumers have been published online. Download them from www.vosa.gov.uk/vehicle-recalls.

All of the work undertaken by the VOSA Vehicle Safety Branch helps Britain to enjoy some of the safest roads in the world.
