Helping MOT garages manage test demand in the autumn

MOT demand during the autumn will be higher for garages and motorists.

Following on from our Beat the Rush campaign in 2020, we want to support MOT garages again during the busier months of the year.

To do this, we’ve updated the toolkit you can use to reach out to customers and encourage them to book their MOT in now.

Updated toolkit

We’ve updated the graphics, social media posts and an email template which you can tailor for your garage.

Autumn MOT demand - campaign toolkit (click link to download)

You can use the toolkit to encourage motorists to book their MOT now to make sure they can get a slot with you.

This will help keep them safe on the road and help you to manage demand during an extremely busy time.

One point you should have added to your 'Tool Kit',

IF YOU HAVE BOOKED AN MOT, TURN UP FOR IT'

Thinking about when the excemption should have ended would have been a better help last year instead of ending it at busiest time of year, the scheme should have carried on until December when trade tends to slow a little, telling people to book early only leads to missed appointments.

You do not need to educate VTS you need to educate the motoring public.
Posters to print off to put up in a VTS will not be seen by those who's car only see's a VTS when they need an MOT.
The onus is on DVSA to highlight this through the media.

Hi Martin. Thank you for your comments. The blog post is designed to help garages get the message across to the public. We are also using social media messages to advise motorists that demand for MOTs will be greater in the autumn.

    Hi
We Could really do with this Kind on Thing in the Spring for the motorcycle class 1&2 test stations as our demand will be next March as Motorcycles tend not to be tested in the winter as cars will be..

This would really help then as this year was hell with staff getting abuse because we had a lack of slots due to demand against time and staff ..

    thank you for your time

Most of our customers only know its mot time when they come to tax their vehicles, with those 6 months extensions they have all been running around with expired mots, unfortunately no police to act on it! More government awareness films needed! They don't even see it as a safety check, just a formality to be on the road!
