DVSA’s MOT Training, Education and Skills Support (MTESS) team is currently developing nationally recognised qualifications that will professionalise the role of MOT testers and AEs (Authorised Examiners). The aim is to modernise the way in which MOT tester and AE training is carried out, to better meet the needs of our customers.
Over the last few months we’ve been surveying garages about switching over to the new MOT testing service, and now over 75% of garages have told us they’re ready. We’re going to be contacting sites and testers ahead of their switchover to the new service in September 2015.
In November 2014, over 2,500 of you took part in an exercise to test the new navigation of MOT services and information on GOV.UK. So thank you to everyone that helped with this exercise.
DVSA is asking all testers and other VTS roles to check and update their VTS device email address. This is to help with switching over to the new MOT testing service in 2015.
An ongoing DVSA online survey has shown that most garages are confident they’ll be ready to switch over to the new MOT testing service by April 2015. So far, 96% of respondents - around 7,200 AEs have confirmed their sites will be ready.
DVSA is on track to roll-out the new web-based MOT testing system between April and August 2015.We’re making good progress finalising the ‘testing’ part of the new system, which will be rolled out step-by-step from April 2015.

DVSA has received reports of garages getting phonecalls from so-called ‘VOSA’ / ‘DVSA’ representatives offering broadband and internet services ahead of the switchover to the new MOT testing system in 2015. These calls are NOT connected to DVSA in any way.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) will soon be carrying out a new activity when visiting some sites. This will be known as an ‘observed inspection with defects’.
For a while now, ‘items not tested’ on MOT Comp has caused some confusion for testers. As a feature which was originally built to be used only by Vehicle Examiners, it was also being used by Nominated testers. This wasn’t the intended use and we’ve decided to simplify the rules.
